To qualify for a particular age group a player must be under the age of that group as at 31st December of the previous year for the Winter season, and as at 30th June of the current year for the Summer season. For example, to play Under 14’s in the 2015 Winter season the player must be 13 or younger on the 31st December 2014. To play Under 14’s in the 2015 Summer season the player must be 13 or younger on the 30th June 2015.
Players and Parents
Fees are assessed prior to the start of each new season and reflect the cost of insurance, coaching, court hire, player registration, match costs and administration.
Fees are detailed on the Registration Form which can be accessed on the Membership page. As a non-profit community organisation we keep fees as low as we can. A discount applies for multiple players from the one family. Players will not be placed in a team until fees have been paid.
The Team Manager is one of the most important positions in the Club as they enable the smooth functioning of the team during the season. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to be a Team Manager by indicating it on their child's season registration form. If no volunteers are forthcoming for a particular team the Club will arbitrarily appoint one or more families to take on the role or to find a replacement.
A document outlining the duties of the Team Manager can be downloaded HERE .
Tiger Cubs Clinic
Clinics are held four times a year. Each clinic comprises 7-8 Sunday afternoon sessions depending on term dates and public holidays:
- Term 1 (Feb-Mar),
- Term 2 (Apr-May),
- Term 3 (Jul-Sep), and
- Term 4 (Oct-Dec).
Certainly, however, the Clinic offers the chance to have a go at basketball before making the commitment to join a team. It also allows children to learn some basic ball-handling and team skills so they gain some self-confidence in a friendly environment. This gives them the best chance of being a happy basketballer in their first season.
Most of our Cubs go on to play in the Under 8 or Under 10 age groups so normally children attending are aged from 6 to about 9 years old.
All attendees are given a Malvern Tigers branded basketball so all you need to bring is a water bottle. Wear comfortable sports shoes and clothing suitable for doing lots of running.
Cubs Clinics are supervised by Malvern Tigers coaches.
Penpraze Park Recreation Centre which is at the rear of Malvern Primary School. You can walk through the school grounds from Tooronga Road or park outside the stadium in Victoria Rd South, Malvern.
The clinic is a fun environment and there is no exam at the end! However, to get the most out of it, it is best to attend as many sessions as possible. As we are fortunate to have a professional coach for the clinic, the cost remains the same regardless of how many sessions are attended.
